Blended Sky – Demo 2006 (Self-Release)

I’m not sure if that is the correct title for this, but I’m sure the band will know what you’re referring to when you contact them.....which a lot of you should seriously consider doing. I have a feeling that due to the name, distorted guitar tone and drug and space references in the lyrics this is going to get mislabeled as Stoner Rock by some. This is far more interesting than anything I’ve heard from that genre in some time. Definitely heavy rock and yes there are drug and space oriented lyrics, but this packs far more edgy and malice tinged vibes than any Kyuss clone band.
The songs are compact (four in a little over 10 minutes); you’ll find no long solos or jam sections here. Think Iggy and the Stooges mixed with MC5 channeled through Blue Cheer and Black Sabbath. This has a definite swing and groove to it, but that groove is propelled forward with a palpable sense of urgency (energy wise not tempo wise)...........slightly psychedelic but thoroughly punchy. The guitars cut walloping, though not overly thick, riffs with the ones on “Odd Stuff” and “Queen Diamond” in particular sounding far more menacing than your average patchouli anointed bongheads. The vocals are clear but edgy with the French (I believe) accent coming through in a way that adds character rather than detracting from anything. The rhythm section pushes the urgency. Nothing fancy here, but exactly what the doctor ordered.
All in all, it really left me wanting more. If much of Stoner Rock is the soundtrack to a daydream of a return to the summer of love with big amps, this is the soundtrack to drugged out survivors of Haight/Ashbury’s dark decline robbing a lost tourist. Good stuff here. I hope that more is forthcoming.

Sounds interesting! That "drug and space" stuff gets me every time, even if it is a bit of a misnomer for these guys.

you're close to the truth about this band. The most interessting point you lighten is that it sounds more aggressive, twisted, hangovered and power than many "stoner" trend annoying supernice stuff, that actually don't remeber the fact that kind of music is the offspring of black sabath, not of simon and garfunkel. If is there must be peace in this music, it must come from the beatitc satisfaction of swalloing smoke after a slaughter more than eating flowers after going to church, like sily hyppies! There will be a day when the sheep and the wolf will walk side by side, but it will be in the unique goal to clean up the mistreated earth of the feeble human race 
So, i garantee you that the best is yet to come with that guys. Actually, i have played with them for a wile (I 'am the one that rec the bass on the demo, but the distace not allows ourselves to play togehter anymore) and i don't have only a french accent when i talk english, i got also a terrible way to write it as you can read! So keep it true man, and don't eat flowers |
