Blended Sky – Introduction to Liquid Space Time (Demo)
By Mike Ballue

September 30, 2006

Not quite what I was expecting, the sound coming out of the speakers when I pushed play on this 5 track demo. The press sheet describes the band as a “rock/metal band with a stoner touch” and the title and band name pointed to some psychedelic touches. I guess the last part may not be that far off.......if you ate the brown acid that is. This actually doesn’t sound too “stoner” at all. It does sound solidly original (hard to do in a way overdone genre) and difficult to describe. Sort of like putting The MC5, Black Sabbath, Joy Division (at their most aggressive) in a blender, add a sprinkle of Nebula and Warrior Soul, bake in a punk rock production oven and serve at a 60's B-horror movie party. On second listen I have to give it to these four guys, it all comes out very original and rockin.

The five tunes blast out in less than 16 minutes, usually a sign of some high energy on offer and that holds well true here. While more up tempo tracks like “The Marvel Secret” and “Divine Will” would be expected to be somewhat energetic, the energy level here is high even on slower grinders like “High Mummy” or “Odd Stuff” due to a variety of factors. The old punk rock production actually helps, studio shine would kill this. The guitar is raw and dirty as hell, the rhythm section pulses and pushes incessantly and topping it all off are some seriously deranged and disturbed sounding vocals (and not in a pretentious “necro” kind of way). All in all it works pretty damn well. A demo worth picking up and a band worth watching.
