Johnny Kobra The Smell of Rock and Roll (Self-Release)
By Glenn Tillman

March 20, 2007

This is such an outstanding, beautiful example of the eternal vibrancy and good time "listenability" of eternally cool, classic rock. I have listened to this CD dozens of times now without getting even a little tired of it's clean melodies, intelligent hooks, and singable lyrics. Every song on this CD shines like a diamond. I would listen to the radio again if they still played rock and roll this cool. Swedish transplant to Hollywood, Johnny Kobra, sings, writes, and plays his rock and roll heart out on this little taste of musical paradise, with nods to influences like Hanoi Rocks, Thin Lizzy, and less heavy Alice in Chains while instilling enough originality and fresh creativity to make an "old" rock form new again. JK is an artist, and rock and roll is his chosen medium. I'm usually disappointed by bands that claim to, or are said to have, "Revived classic rock and roll", but this CD has an authentic sound and rock sensibility that you can hear from the first note to the last. This one absolutely sounds and smells like the real thing

The name Johnny Kobra scares me to death, and the rock he/they claim to revive is not my fave from the old school. Nevertheless, a good, succinct review. I feel like I've got a good idea of what they're all about.
