Cabron - Cabron (Buzzville Records)

These three brothers and singer Alejandro may have started out as just a weekend jam, but they must have realized pretty quickly that they have the necessary chemistry to make a go of it as a band. These tracks are mellifluous metal rock magic. Sure, the Kyuss influence is pretty obvious, but that influence is here essential and benevolent. Cabron is not a Kyuss clone. They took what they liked in that sound and made it into a signature sound all their own, growing and evolving into a unique groove/melodic pattern that may be a half step beyond what Queens of the Stone Age are now doing with the Kyuss legacy.
Several times this Cabron CD echoed QOTSA's
Rated R CD, which I always felt was the most musically imaginative and advanced of that band's discography. Also, although I'm certainly no authority on such things, whoever recorded and mastered this CD truly is a master. Every tune is remarkably clear and clean with that perfect sound separation that allows each instrument and vocal to be heard individually and together.
Cabron is the real deal. Every month one of my review CDs ends up dominating the player and pushing aside the others for continuous play. This is the pick of the litter this month. Absolutely recommended if your ears lean toward Queens of the Stone Age, Atomic Bitchwax, and Kyuss.
