LAS CRUCES
Has anybody else felt the crushing impact of "Banished"?
As doom-mongers, we all must bow to the monstrous heaviness of LAS CRUCES. Tough to even conceive of anything heavier. "Like a goddamn wretched dog!" With LAS CRUCES, THE GATES OF SLUMBER, OGRE, EARTHRIDE, AGAINST NATURE, CHURCH OF MISERY and others on the scene today, I believe that the forces of Doom are more powerful than ever. The Sword is a dull blade, contrived and calculated in the most cynical and boring fashion (and I do mean "fashion".) Wolfmommy? I dunno, guys. At least they play something resembling music, with some okey-dokey riffery (no solos, though -- why try?) ... even if it's a pale, milk-white imitation of a style done so much better in the '70s. I wouldn't dignify those Wolves with a Seventies tag, because that would be playing to their marketing scheme. Maybe all these guys are Kool Doods just Makin' Music. Fine. The real enemy -- and I'm surprised more Hellriders have not focused upon this glaring offense -- is not the moon, but the... well, you know))) I do not favor Nazi book-burnings or disco-sux CD smashing. Live and let live-- or live and let die, in the case of pretentious solar scam-artistes. Vote with your wallet, and exercise free speech. Dethrone the phonies, and let honesty and passion be heard. Contrary to certain smug opinions foisted upon this community, we are NOT sell-outs waiting for the corporate call. When I was playing music, I made every effort to avoid such deathtraps -- which was easy, since my band played straight from the gut with no regard for commercialism -- the kiss of death in the music industry. Say we sucked; I don't care. Truth Is, What Is. Obsession is everything. Please listen to LAS CRUCES and feel the real DOOM. I dismount my rickety soapbox and leave the decision to you. Oh, yeh -- by the way -- LAS CRUCES. Like a goddamn wretched dog. Dave / Blood Farmers Last edited by DaveBloodFarmer; 06-13-2006 at 11:00 PM. |

Can't agree more Dave. Sunn O))) and this whole drone doom thing is pretty damn boring. How many times can you listen to something like that. Something to put on while reading a book.
I always loved Las Cruces, but when I saw them live at Templars last year, my already high opinion of them soared to new heights. And they're a great bunch of guys that are very respectful, unlike some solar dicks out there.

Las Cruces is the best band in the Doom Scene today... followed only by Orodruin... but that's just me.

To say Las Cruces slayed at Templars would be a drastic understatement. Can't wait for the new one!
Can't wait for some new Blood Farmers stuff also! |

Some enterprising young label ought to reissue "Ringmaster". That thing is a work of doom perfection.

Feeling the brotherhood here.
Dave's essay is right on, although I might be persuaded to be a "disco sux CD smasher." Righteous all the way. Whatever happened to M Squad? Mark is indeed on the short list of greatest underground vocalists ever. At least when he's not singing into his beer bottle (Templar's in-joke).
