Mourning Beloveth are back after last years stunning homage to gloom, doom and death, Dust. Suffice it to say, if you liked Dust, you're gonna fuggin' love The Sullen Sulcus.

Mourning Beloveth pull off the majestic minor chord misery better than most of their peers simply because they are attuned to the concept of quality. Paul McCarroll's album art is magnificent, reminding me a bit of the latest Unleashed cover in it's hellish color scheme. The arrangements are stellar death/doom, the kinda thing that goes well with a cold grey day, a hot cup of Earl Gray, and a melancholy countenance. The juxtaposition between Darren's grim death vocals and Frank's clean, soulful singing over the thick-yet-sorrowful guitar parts always makes for a captivating listen. They don't gyp you on the content either, The Sullen Sulcus clocks in a just over 65 minutes. It might be nice if they provide an international suicide hotline number in the booklet though. If you weren't in a woeful state before your listen, you will be after.

It's great to see a band continue on with such a dedication to quality product - I'm also impressed on how the band follows through on promotional requests and it's steadfast dedication to getting the band's name out and about. They work hard at their music, and deserve all the success they have coming due to them.

Great album, great band. Mourning Beloveth is a true asset to doom metal.
