As you know, the bullet belt has long been one of the pieces of true metal gear, but does anyone know it's origins ?

Like, who was the first band to wear one ?
Why did they wear it ? etc.

The earliest example I can think of is Motorhead circa '77, but I can't believe they were the first.

Comments anyone ?

Given my girth, I think a bullet belt is a dream for me. I am contemplating wrapping the tread of a tank around me, though. I bet I would be the first!

Sentence of Death was the shit. I dressed up like them for Halloween one year. Sadly I sold my bullet belt a few years back.

TThose of you who have the Fireabll LP by Deep Purple should try to find the pic of Roger Glover. Because there he wear the bullet belt! That was the earliest proof I could find for that!

I think the first bands to wear the bullet belt were Hawkwind (Lemmy) and the Pink Faries (Larry Wallis). Because they played much faster than the other bands of the day (I assume)... anyway that would be the wellspring from which the statement doth flow... and if it isn't then certainly those bands popularized the concept.

I'd wear one, but it'd rash up the back of my guitar. and I'm a tubby fuck, so I never tuck in my shirts anymore... so what'd be the point?

You could always wrap one around your head! That's always a good look. . . .

Don't feel bad. Mine was confiscated back 1986 by some dum ass cop while going to a Metallica concert. I was going to leave it in my car right before walking in and some jack ass of a cop saw it and decided that it was too dangerous for me to walk around with it. Can you believe that shit? Only here in Texas. :horns:

Had a friend get stopped by the Dutch police and they searched him. He had the usual party supplies on him. Balls of hash, papers, bowl but no the cops took his bullet belt and gave him back the drugs! Oh, life in Nederland!
