Maybe Deep Purple running headlong into the topographic oceans of Yes with a dash of King Crimson? Sure, it could be called 70's retro, and bet your bong that it's loud, it's got more heavy groove per track than anything else released this year, it hints of experimental and it swings like a freight train but there is something else here. An X-factor that separates the great from the good. This is musical magic, heavy on the dynamics, intertwined with tasteful keyboard flourishes (esp. on the epic "As Say the Pilgrims, So Say I" )for atmosphere, acoustic guitars and some fantastic vocals. This is a perfect follow-up to last year's previous full-length self-titled album , a bit more uptempo and the vocals more confident. Honest
to God, there is something in the water up in there in Viking country
- the truly great bands keep pouring forth out of there, unchecked. Visit the Mammoth Volume website at www.riffrock.com/mammothvolume Purchase Mammoth Volume
