Reviews    Funeral For a Friend - Four Ways to Scream Your Name (Sanctuary Music)
by Chris Barnes

Emo makes me feel like the biggest pussy. Funeral For a Friend do it better than most, even. A polished commixture of hardcore and sugary pop chourses. If I were less jaded and weren’t so paranoid about coming off like a pussy, I might even enjoy this. If I were about 15 years younger and didn’t grow up on Maiden, Ozzy, Priest and Sabbath, I probably would have enjoyed it. My wife liked it, which makes me automatically assume I shouldn’t.

Actually, “This Years Most Open Heart Break” starts off strong… nice Maiden like riffing and some dude screaming his lungs out. Then it breaks into this sugary melodic vocal line and I feel like I should put on a sundress and show off my pretty legs. It’s infectious and well done, polished and pretty, nice mix of aggression and pop, and it makes me feel like half –a-fag.

I don’t know. Not my thing. You might enjoy it, though.
