Interviews
Hellride Music: Start us out here by giving everyone the lowdown on Dirty Rig. Whose in the band, what do they play, how'd you guys get the band going, etc. And do you all hate each other yet? Dirty Rig : Chas - Guitar, Ed - Vocals, Dave - Drums, Buckshot - Bass Ed: Yes very much hate all of them. Buckshot: The only time I hate these guys is when we run out of drugs. Shit man I hate everyone when I'm out of drugs. Hellride Music: Honestly, you guys vaulted out of nowhere right on to The Music Cartel label and proceeded to kick everyone's ass with riff-centric beer metal. I had never heard of Dirty Rig, didn't even know that a band named Dirty Rig existed until I was flipping through a Caroline Distro catalog late last year and saw a one sheet for Blood Sweat & Beer Make America Strong. No demos, no splits - just right down to business. How did you happen to catch the ear of The Music Cartel? Buckshot:
We recorded the record and didnt know what to do with it. We didn't really
want to release it ourselves. We are just too lazy for that. I called
up Eric from The Music Cartel and set up a meeting. I told him to put
on his seat belt because he was going to get rocked. As soon as "Hitch
Hiker" came blasting through the speakers he got punched right square
in the chin. He asked us what he needed to do to get the rights to put
Blood, Sweat & Beer Make America Strong out. It has been a
great marriage ever sense. Hellride Music: The thing that grabs me about Dirty Rig is that you are all about ten missed hair cuts (except Buckshot, of course, whose flying the locks ) away from being a metal band. Most of "Blood, Sweat & Beer" that remind me of C.O.C. and Black Label Society on a Celtic Frost binge. One thing really stands out on the record - the RIFFS. The RIFFs are HUGE. Does Chas come up with those things on his own, or is it a group effort? How about songwriting in general? Ed: I have indeed missed my last 10 haircuts. Buckshot: Chas mostly comes up with the riffs for all of the jams. He is the Les Paul Monster for sure. We then digest the riffs after a handful of beers and sometimes they stick or change. Hellride Music: So what do you think about the record anyway? You guys happy? If you could change anything what do you think that would be? Or are so caught up in the hype you think that the baby Jesus has touched the record in some way and you wouldn't fuck with it? Ed: I like the way it turned out. I think what we have inside for the future as far as recordings go is going to be bad-ass. Buckshot: I think the record fucking smokes. I wouldn't change anything. It's a great introduction for people to get to know us. Hellride Music: To me, and you know this from my review, the decision to put vids of three of your live performances on the album is the type of value-added material that might save the CD from the scourgages of the illegal download. The value-added approach seems to be the best way to get the customer to buy your music vs suing the shit out of everyone and their Mom. Tell us about the DVD portion of the recording - whose idea was it? Who directed and edited and where did the live portions take place? Buckshot: I think bands and record company's need to give the consumer more bang for their buck. We as a band wanted to do the DVD because we wanted people to see what we are all about live. We recorded the live video at this place called Connections in NJ when we jammed with Nuclear Assault. Those guys are good fucking people and they shared their beer with us when we ran out. Hellride Music: Nuclear Assault?? No shit?? I'm a big fan. Ed's got the perfect voice for Beer Metal. Is it him that gets all the groupies, limos and rad tootskie? Does he share? When you guys make the MTV awards, will he act like David Lee Roth back in '96 and embarrass the rest of the band? I know it's hard to predict the future, I just want your overall feeling. Ed: Yes I do share and if we do get to an awards show I plan on being so wrecked that I will not only embarrass the band but my family as well. Can't wait. Chas: Diamond Dave never embarrassed anyone. He made millions of dollars and bangs tons of pussy. How is that fuckin' embarassing????? The guy is a stud and a rock star. End of story. Hellride Music: Ease up, guitar player. Don't start embarrassing your band. So what next? You guys going to tour to support the album? Any future plans to record in the works? How does any new material you've written since Blood, Sweat & Beer... compare to the former? Buckshot:
Yeah we are going out for a small party in May through out the Mid-West.
We picked the Mid West to tour first because the beer is cheaper thanNew
York, the chicks are way easier and people really love their metal in
the Mid West. Ed: The boys are hard at work now writing new material for the next record. Chas: There will be plenty of ripping guitar solos and the rifs will be even bigger!! Hellride Music: I always like to ask what the bands are listening to these days. What's playing in the collective turntables, CD players and MP3 blasters of Dirty Rig? Ed: Led Zeppelin (any album at any time) Kelis (Milkshake) I can't get that fucking song out of my head! Tom Jones (His Greatest Hits) and Probot. Chas: SABBATH - Highwaymen - Merl Haggard - Clutch - Waylon Jennings - Motorhead - SABBATH Hellride Music: Thanks for the interview.. Anything I missed? Ed: I like my women drunk and tattooed. Chas:
NU METAL, EMO AND GRUNGE ARE DEAD. LONG LIVE ROCK N ROLL, BABY!
