Reviews The
Caliban Sessions - #1 (Caliban Records)
by Chris
Barnes
Norway's
most famous producer/guitarist El Doom (AKA Ole Andreasson) has gathered
the best musicians in the Oslo underground for a weekend of drinking and
table soccer. Oh yeah, and jamming and recording. The result is the first
volume of The Caliban Sessions.
The rock n' roll contained ranges from pure rock n' roll ("Your Hair
Used to Be as Black (As My Bloodshot Eyes)"), motown soul ("The
Geniuine Caliban Sessions" - replete with power flute!!), late 60's
power-pop ("Little Hippie Girl") and intense stoned epics ("God
Stood Me Up" with some excellent vocals by Thulsa Doom's Papa Doom).
All of it first rate and a testament to the quality and chemistry of Olso's
musicians.
All eyes should be kept on the Olso underground scene. Thulsa
Doom, Brut Boogaloo, Insense, Black Debbath, The
Cumshots, Oslo Motherfukers and Piledriver are all names that deserve
your listening time. Consider The Caliban Sessions as a snapshot of what
the best in musical chemistry can accomplish in rock n' roll.
